Providing Services for People with Disabilities and Their Families Children and adults with disabilities and special needs find highest-quality services designed to meet their individual needs when they come to Easter Seals. Teams of therapists, teachers and other health professionals help each person overcome obstacles to independence and reach his or her personal goals. Easter Seals also includes families as active members of any therapy program, and offers the support families need. Easter Seals Louisiana will assist consumers, family members and other significant individuals in the life of a child or adult with a disability in planning for the achievement of their personal goals. A Support Coordinator from Easter Seals will help disabled individuals identify and gain access to the full range of needed services including medical, social, vocational, educational and other support services. Our staff will assist with the development and implementation of service plans and behavior management programs. In addition, Easter Seals will monitor services to assure they are responsive to the needs of the consumer. Easter Seals' trained mental healthcare staff understands the challenges faced by individuals living with a chronic mental illness. Our mental health staff can help guide people with chronic mental conditions through the process of applying for and obtaining needed support services such as Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security Disability, offering coordination and follow up support to ensure the well-being of persons with chronic mental illness. For children grades 4 through 8, Easter Seals Louisiana works with healthcare professionals and volunteers throughout the state to offer free screening for scoliosis. Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine often affecting adolescents, the cause of which is still not fully understood. Easter Seals Louisiana operates the Equipment Loan Program to assist persons with disabilities whose needs cannot be met through existing resources. We offer a variety of Durable Medical Equipment, including wheelchairs, walkers, bedside commodes, tub and shower benches, crutches and canes. The M. P. L. Assistance Program or "Specific Assistance" is a service which provides for the direct purchase of Durable Medical Equipment or services directly related to an individual's disability whose needs cannot be met through existing public or private agencies or private insurance.
